Architectural Lighting Designer

I design layered, sustainable and emotionally resonant lighting environments. My work translates architectural intent into precise visual hierarchy, atmosphere and performance—from early concept through simulation, documentation, controls and site delivery.

How We Work

A transparent process from first brief to final illumination.

Each stage is structured around clear decisions, measurable performance and close coordination with the client, architect, interior designer, landscape consultant and engineering teams. The process allows design intent, budget and technical requirements to develop together—reducing risk before construction begins.

01

Discovery & Client Brief

We define the project vision, user experience, functional requirements, brand aspirations, programme, budget and sustainability targets.

Outputs: agreed brief, scope, programme and design priorities.
02

Research & Site Analysis

Architecture, materials, context, views, circulation, daylight, existing conditions and applicable lighting standards are reviewed in detail.

Outputs: site findings, precedent studies and opportunity mapping.
03

Concept Design

A clear lighting narrative is developed through mood imagery, sketches, hierarchy diagrams, key scenes and initial integration ideas.

Outputs: concept report, visual direction and preliminary lighting strategy.
04

Schematic Design

The concept is translated into coordinated layouts, fixture types, mounting principles, preliminary calculations and control zoning.

Outputs: schematic plans, sections, fixture intent and initial budget review.
05

Design Development

Optics, colour temperature, dimming, controls, details, loads and interfaces are refined with the wider consultant team.

Outputs: coordinated drawings, calculations, schedules and specifications.
06

Mock-ups & Validation

Key effects are tested through samples, mock-ups and simulations to confirm brightness, glare control, material response and visual comfort.

Outputs: approved effects, aiming criteria and final product confirmation.
07

Tender & Construction Documentation

Complete technical information is issued for pricing and construction, with clear coordination notes and installation requirements.

Outputs: IFC drawings, schedules, details, control intent and tender support.
08

Site Support & Commissioning

Installation is reviewed, luminaires are aimed, scenes are programmed and final performance is checked against the approved design intent.

Outputs: site observations, snagging, focusing, scene setting and handover support.
Client benefit

At every milestone, the client receives clear information on design intent, technical performance, cost implications and the decisions required to move confidently into the next stage.
